Pet Birds
The number of pet bird ownership is greatly increasing each year. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association’s (APPMA) 2001 – 2002 National Pet Owners Survey, "6.9 million households own a total of 19 million birds, placing pet birds fourth behind dogs, cats, and fish. Two out of ten bird owners, own three or more birds." The top ten most popular pet bird are:
1. Cockatiel (38%) 2. Parakeet (31%) 3. Finch (9%) 4. Parrot (8%) 5. Lovebird (7%) 6. Conure (6%) 7. Amazon (4%) 8. Canary (4%) 9. Dove (3%) 10. Cockatoo (2%) Pet birds require lots of attention, care, and love. The medical expenses can quickly over burden the owner. Pet birds of all species can cause allergies, be demanding, messy, destructive, and very loud. For many reasons, owners sometimes can no longer care for their pet bird and either seek new a home or release them. Sadly, birds that are release are not always able to provide for themselves and die or the novelty of having a pet bird wears off and the bird is neglected. Birds, Birds, and More Birds Sanctuary & Adoption Aviary provides an alternative for pet bird owners to give their birds a new home. MissionOur mission is to promote the welfare of birds through education programs and bird clubs and to provide for long-term care, shelter, love, and medical needs for exotic birds that for one reason or another their owner could no longer care for them.
